Something of a peculiar career path for an artist - I am a chartered civil engineer with a specialist interest in environmental management and also with qualifications in management including an MPhil from Cardiff University Business School.
Following my retirement I studied art at Hereford College of Art and Design and was awarded an HND in Fine Art in 2005. I began exhibiting in 2004 and enjoyed early success in major competitions and regional exhibitions. I was awarded an MA in Printmaking (with Merit) by the University of Wales (Newport) in March 2011.
I was senior manager in local government prior to my retirement. I headed technical service departments in two district councils and a Welsh unitary authority consecutively and had a particular interest in performance management.
I was a partner in an EU project to develop quality of life indicators with other professionals from Ireland, Greece and Finland. I was elected President of my local government professional association, TAG, in my last year at work. However I usually carried a sketch book on holiday!
